Current Events#12 Irans General Soleimani killed at Baghdad airport

The 62-year-old spearheaded Iranian military operations in the Middle East as head of Iran's elite Quds Force. He was killed at Baghdad airport, along with other Iran-backed militia figures, early on Friday in a strike ordered by US President Donald Trump. Soleimani's killing marks a major escalation in tensions between Washington and Tehran. Soleimani was widely seen as the second most powerful figure in Iran, behind the Ayatollah Khamenei. The Quds Force, an elite unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, reported directly to the ayatollah and Soleimani was hailed as a heroic national figure. President Trump, who was in Florida at the time of the strike, tweeted an image of the American flag shortly after the news broke.
The United States did this for a reason, it was a planed attack. Iran was not doing good things therefore the US striked. The tension this has caused mass panic in many people around the world. Iran threatened to go to all out war with the US, tensions have decreased since that moment. Many people still fear there will be an all out war between the two.

Curent event# 11: Coronavirus

In just a couple of months, the new Coronavirus that emerged from the Chinese city of Wuhan has spread around the world. The human race is locked in a battle against something five million times smaller than us. As it continues to spread around the world, bringing panic with it, scientists are striving to develop ways of fighting this previously unknown threat. On 11 February, Zhong Nanshan, a prominent Chinese physician leading a panel of experts helping to control the outbreak, said that the coronavirus will possibly peak by the end of February. estimates that at the peak of around a million people, about 10% of Wuhan's population, will be infected. At this point, he says, up to 2.3 million cases will be diagnosed in a single day.
I think China should be making smarter mover to control the outbreak by closing borders. People should be made to stay in China and stay at home. The world is already trying to contain this outbreak. The coronavirus is a very quickly spredding and if people arn't careful it could become a plauge like diasese. People arn't careful and this is what caused the diases to be wide spread.

Current Event # 10 Your Hair is, Your Right

A Highschool student in New Jersey forced to cut off his dreadlocks or forfeit a wrestling match. two twins from Massachusetts were threatened to be suspended and kicked off the track team for wearing braid extensions. An 11-year-old sent home for wearing braids. these are only a few incidents of black people being punished for hairstyles violating dress codes. California and New York are the first states to pass laws to treat the targeting of people based on hair at school, work or public places.
Personally, I think that your hair is your right. Hair is a part of your body and can also be considered freedom of speech. Hair can be an important part of someone's religion and could violate the freedom of religion. Some people take almost a year to get their hair the way they want and then people take that all away in a second. People cherish their hair as well and some people don't cair about what others care about and tell them to get rid of it. People deserve to have the right to do what they want with their hair.

Current event #9: I95 Car pile up

At about 7:45 a.m. Tuesday, Tammy Waltman was in Carmel driving northbound on Interstate 95 when the sun hit her eyes right before she reached exit 174. She couldn’t see anything, but after hearing crashing sounds all around her she slowed down and managed to stop inches from a tractor-trailer truck. “Cars around me and behind me were going every which way,” she said. In front of her, a pregnant woman’s car was hit by the truck behind which Waltman had stopped. She saw the woman’s car flip and land right side up. Later on Tuesday, Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor said it treated 11 patients from the crash site but that none of their injuries were life-threatening.
I think the state should do something about this spot on I95 where there is a hill and early in the morning the sun blares into your eyes and can’t see anything. In 2015 around the same time of year there was another pile up with more than 40 cars. Many people get hurt in these and especially when there is a pregnant woman there are 2 lives in danger. Maybe if the state made like some type of sun deflectors these would not happen in this location. This kind of crash can be very dangerous and this time didn’t kill anyone.

Current event#8: Explosion in Farmington

An explosion on Monday, Sept. 16, 2019, killed one firefighter and critically injured five other people at a building in Farmington, Me., that had just been evacuated because it smelled like propane. Michael Bell, 68, a 30-year member of the Farmington Fire Department, died in the blast, which destroyed a two-story building housing an organization that serves people with disabilities No clients were in the building, which had recently finished being constructed He said the group’s maintenance man, Larry Lord, had smelled propane in the basement, evacuated the building and called the fire department.
I think that the maintenance man was a hero to many of the people that worked there and if they didn’t evacuate the workers would have been killed. Many of the houses in the area were damaged and shows how big these explosions can get. The smell they add to the propane was a very smart idea because of all the lives saved throughout the years’ other explosions. The people who go to these sites risk their lives to save other people’s lives. You don’t find many people in the world who do this kind of stuff.

Current event #7: The vaping crisis

In the article by the New York Times Upfront, 18-year-old Addie Nelson had vaped a variety of products for three years. She then experienced chest pain, nausea, and fever. She checked herself into a hospital and had to be hooked up to a machine to breathe. As of mid-October, over 1,500 had suffered from vaping and 33 people had died from vaping causes. Federal agents still have not figured out what substances are causing these illnesses. E-cigarettes were originally meant to be healthier but doctors now say that the lungs of people who have vaped look like they have been exposed to toxic chemicals.
I think that the vape companies should tell exactly what is in their products and the dangers that come with them. The companies should also make a nicotine-free vape so that kids could do it but not get addicted. The companies are purposely trying to hook the youth because the cigarette generation is dying out. The government isn’t doing anything serious with the companies. When the kids get addicted they can develop lung cancer or a collapsed lung. The kids are being used to make the companies richer and the companies don’t care about their users.

Current event #6: Thousands of birds found dead by an Indian lake and no one knows why

In the article by Manveena Suri, CNN, she states It's a mystery that has baffled officials in India. What killed more than 2,000 birds near the country's largest inland lake. Locals spotted the carcasses on Sunday along the shores of Sambhar Salt Lake in the northwestern state of Rajasthan. They alerted state forest officials who found around 2,400 dead birds including 20 migratory species that flock to the lake each year. The lake is considered too salty for many species, but local tourism sites say it's a popular gathering place for flamingos, storks, sandpipers, redshanks, black-winged stilts, coots, and shovelers. For now, the cause of death is unknown to wildlife authorities.
I think the Indian government should be investigating this issue because of the 20 migratory birds species that lost some of it flocks. The lake is salt water and a lot of birds drink freshwater so I think that might be an issue. Another issue could be diseases that could have been spread from birds that died in the water and contaminated it. This issue will affect more than one country it will affect countries like Afghanistan Pakistan and Iran where these birds migrate to. Many of these birds are very small like the Sandpiper, black-winged stilts, and coots. India really needs to do something about this issue.
